Real average hourly earnings increased 0.5 percent from April 2023 to April 2024. Real earnings are earnings that have been adjusted for changes in consumer prices. The change in real average hourly earnings combined with no change in the average workweek resulted in a 0.5-percent increase in real average weekly earnings over this period.

Today we recognize World Trade Week by looking at U.S. import prices from around the globe. Overall, U.S. import prices advanced 0.9 percent in April, the largest 1-month increase since the index rose 2.9 percent in March 2022. Import prices advanced 1.1 percent over the past 12 months, the largest over-the-year increase since December 2022.
